In Greek, the word “nima” means thread — the thin, continuous line from which every fabric is born. This is the word that inspired the name Nima.
For us, the thread is more than a material; it is the carrier of Cypriot tradition, craftsmanship, and aesthetics passed down from generation to generation.
The name Nima was chosen because it encapsulates this philosophy. The thread is the foundation of embroidery and weaving, but also a symbolic line that connects eras, techniques, and people. It is the link between past and present — the delicate continuity that allows tradition to breathe within contemporary expressions.
Nima was born from the need to preserve, honor, and express the cultural heritage of Cyprus in a contemporary way. Through Cypriot embroidery and weaving, reinterpreted with a fresh perspective, this project seeks ways for tradition to be worn, experienced, and continuously evolve through a new form.
At Nima, each pair of sneakers is transformed through industrial embroidery and applied onto the shoe with great care and attention to detail. The patterns embroidered onto the fabric are inspired by Lefkaritiko lace — an art recognized by UNESCO for its uniqueness and deep history. Here, this tradition is reimagined into a modern, wearable form.
Each pair becomes a small canvas where heritage meets contemporary design — a reminder that tradition does not stay behind, but evolves with our steps and finds new ways to flourish today.
